Assistant Director of Student Services and Special Education
This position provides assistance to the executive director of student services and special education in the oversight of the department. This position will have direct responsibility to provide direct supervision of the supervisors in the department. Furthermore, this position provides leadership in the development and implementation of special education programs. Lastly, this position handles all state complaints, due process hearings, office of civil rights complaints, 504 grievances, and any other litigious situations.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Serves as a consultant with school administrators, professionals, support staff, and families. ? Assists in the implementation of the child find process, IDEA, and section 504. ? Assists Executive Director of Student Services in response to OCR, compliance, and due process hearings. ? Directly supervises all supervisor of student services and special education. ? Develops and maintains interagency agreements. ? Assists in the revision of local special education policies and procedures to include the revision of forms. ? Develops professional growth opportunities in the area of special education for school staff, to include instruction. ? Visits and observes special educational programs, teachers, and paraprofessionals. ? Evaluates the performance of special education staff as determined by the Executive Director of Student Services and special education. ? Oversees the daily function of specific special education program areas to be assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services and special education. ? Serves as a liaison to the department of transportation regarding the needs of special education students. ? Serves as a low incident program support. ? Facilitates All Alternative Placements, to include private day and residential programs. ? Actively pursues professional growth activities and maintain current licensure. ? Adheres to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures. ? Maintains a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality. ? Serves as an optimal role model for students, colleagues, and the general public. ? Works in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers. ? Maintains a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position. ? Complies with all District and School policies and regulations. ? Pursues professional growth activities. ? Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
