Description: The person in this position works under the general supervision of the special education director, with direct supervision from a highly qualified teacher This position provides assistance in implementing plans and programs related to academic or functional skill development for students with cognitive, physical, or emotional learning challenges. Paraprofessionals generally work in an inclusionary setting (least restrictive environment).
Essential Job Functions: ? Assist in implementing lesson plans and preparing academic materials ? Assist in adapting classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives ? Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (restroom, hallway, playground, cafeteria) ? Make observations, collect data, give input to appropriate staff ? With appropriate supervision and training, work with students who may be aggressive or disruptive in class , assist in teaching communication skills, give behavior support implementing behavior and learning programs with the use of behavior modification and crisis intervention ? Provide physical assistance to students with disabilities ? Assist with social integration ? Attend meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring information relative to job functions ? Consult and collaboration with supervising teacher and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP goals ? Provide clerical support and take inventory
