City Academy is seeking a very special candidate with visionary leadership skills and successful experience in education administration to serve as Principal beginning July 1, 2021. The successful candidate must have previous experience as a high school administrator and preferably also as a secondary teacher, excellent communication skills, passion for our Personalized Competency-Based approach to learning and assessment, and a fierce dedication to each student’s highest success. We are looking for an educational leader who is able to thrive and lead in a small, independent school environment. Our new Principal will be the face of the school and will help create an inspiring, focused school culture that attracts, retains, and graduates successful young people with post-secondary educational aspirations.
Opened in fall 2000, City Academy is a small public 7th – 12th grade charter school in downtown Salt Lake City dedicated to helping students achieve academic and personal success, fostering responsible engaged citizenship, and inspiring a lifelong love of learning. This year we began our work as a part of the Utah Personalized Competency-Based Learning (PCBL) schools grant supported project. We are immersed in further developing our school culture with a flexible, interesting, "can-do" approach to learning, while also personalizing and caring for the needs and desired educational pathways of every student.
With our location right in the heart of Salt Lake City, near the state capitol building and legislature, and at the base of the University of Utah campus and the Wasatch Mountains we utilize these valuable community facilities and resources to augment and make whole our educational and extra-curricular activities and programs. At City Academy learning is centered in our city. Additionally, each of our seniors completes a service learning internship placement as a part of graduation requirements.
Our new Principal will focus on strategic direction and development of the school, working in collaboration with the Executive Director, lead teachers, and counselor to plan, manage, and lead the school’s day-to-day operations and student programs, including Cambridge International Examinations as our advanced placement program. The Principal will provide core leadership to build and maintain a personalized, competency-based, aspirational tone and culture of the school. The Principal supports teachers in classroom instruction, management, and differentiated student behavior interventions; directs school attendance, restitution, and discipline programs; communicates proactively and constructively with staff, students, and parents; implements school-wide support and recognition programs for student success; and manages student recruitment efforts.
