Hourly Pay: $13.22
Assist special education students with a variety of disabilities one on one in pre school, K-12 or post high in developing signed communication skills. Students may be non verbal and hearing or deaf/ hard of hearing with the goal of sign to eventually be used as the student's primary mode of communication. Communication skills include development of American Sign Language vocabulary, social skills/ appropriately interacting with peers and teachers, and finally expanding their language from pointing, to labeling objects with the sign, to two words, and eventually sentences.
- Works under the direction of the ASL Deaf & Hard of Hearing specialist supporting the student’s signing goals throughout the week.
- Assists the student’s classroom/ special ed teacher daily helping student attend to activities, and work on academic goals such as sight words, reading, writing etc. May also be asked to help with a behavior chart/reward system to help the student be successful.
- Assists student in working with other service providers on the IEP team such as occupational therapy, speech ,adaptive PE Or physical therapy as needed.
- Ability to take data on what was worked on each day in a computer system is required as well as the flexibility in working at different schools.
- Must be comfortable working with students with a variety of disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome etc.
- If applicant is not yet fluent in sign, must be taking an ASL class or actively learning more. (Online resources available)
