Description
Under the direction of the Director of Services for Exceptional Children for Danville Public Schools (DPS), the Alternative Placement Specialist provides support for the Exceptional Children’s program. The Alternative Placement Specialist will be responsible for case managing students in private day and residential settings, to include Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Family Assessment and Planning Team (FAPT) paperwork. This position will also work with the Exceptional Children’s Program in scheduling Eligibility Meetings, monitoring timelines, and serving as a liaison between the schools and the Office of Services for Exceptional Children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Is responsible for IEPs and case management for students in private day and residential placements.
Presents the cases for external placements for funding at FAPT
Is responsible for attending all FAPT meetings and associated paperwork
Is the Division’s representative on the FAPT
Is the Division’s representative on the Truancy Response Team
Serves as the liaison between Danville Public Schools, parents, and outside agencies providing services
Conducts file audits for all identified students
Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Services for Exceptional Children, the Chief Academic Officer, and/or the Superintendent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Proven record as an effective teacher
Demonstrated knowledge of theories of instruction and curriculum development
Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, manage, monitor, and assess the curriculum and programs
Successful experience in using quality principles to affect continuous school improvement, to include increasing student learning and achievement
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Excellent oral and written communication skills
