Director of Curriculum
To provide leadership in the on-going development and improvement of the instructional, curricular, and professional development programs of the school division. Responsible for planning, developing, implementing, assessing, evaluating, and monitoring grades PK-12 instructional programs.
Collaborates with district leaders in the appropriate implementation of VDOE Standards of Learning.
Leads and supervises a division-wide integrated instructional program for grades PK-12, including supervision of and specialists. content specialists, and ITRTs.
Coordinates cross-content integrated opportunities for an instructional program that may include oral language, fluency, reading, writing, math, science, social studies, STEAM, social-emotional development, and instructional technology.
Evaluates the effectiveness of instructional methods and programs and recommends revisions and improvements as needed.
Coordinates curriculum and assessment development, implementation, and revision.
Visits school classrooms on a regular basis to ensure consistency of what is taught from school to school and teacher to teacher in grades PK-12, in partnership with administrators.
Performs classroom observations and guides teachers in the improvement of instructional performance in collaboration with administrators.
Revises pacing guides, curriculum guides, instructional strategies, and assessments in collaboration with content specialists, coaches, teachers, and administrators.
Provides guidance in the selection of instructional resources, new textbooks, materials, and equipment.
Works with school administrators and teachers in organizing and coordinating grade level and departmental meetings in order to ensure horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the division.
Plans and supervises remedial instructional programs, to include coordinating and developing the summer school program in the schools.
Oversees, coordinates, and evaluates the library media programs.
Guides administrators and teachers in the improvement of instructional delivery and performance through a systematic approach to coaching, feedback, and job-embedded professional development.
Assists in developing and conducting division-wide professional development for the instructional staff.
Assists in preparing and monitoring the budget of the instructional program.
Assists the human resources department with interviewing and recommending qualified candidates for instructional positions.
Coordinates division-wide educational activities and community events in collaboration with administrators and teachers.
Assists the Chief Academic Officer with the overall instructional program.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Proven success record as a teacher, administrator, and/or supervisor. Considerable knowledge of planning, developing, implementing, assessing, evaluating, and monitoring grades PK-12 instructional programs. Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional methods and programs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with teachers, principals, and division-level administrators.
