Transition School to Work (TSW) Technician(20/21SY)
DEFINITION: Under general supervision, the TSW/VR Teacher teaches students pre-employment skills and schedules community experiences to support the development of adolescents into successful adults. The teacher provides instruction to students in order to contribute to establishing independence and successful progress toward their postsecondary goals, under the direct supervision of the TSW Coordinator.

TASKS: generally include the following (other duties may be assigned):
Provides case management services for students with a disability including all requirements related to IEP development, provision, and compliance to state and federal regulations.
Provides direct services to students with a disability per agreement on the IEP.
Maintains all aspects and provisions of confidentiality related to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
Meets and instructs assigned classes per the schedule established for the site.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and skill level of the students.
Plans and prepares lessons to provide students with opportunities to meet and/or exceed state standards.
Sets and maintains standards of classroom behavior.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of the students.
Guides the learning process, through the use of clearly established goals and objectives to meet student and district goals and objectives.
Completes and maintains accurate records as required by federal, state, and district regulations/requirements.
Assesses the accomplishments of students as required by policy and assists student growth through the delivery of meaningful feedback.
Works with the general education staff to implement appropriate accommodations and modifications in the regular classroom to allow for student success.
Attends all staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required including Special Education Transition program meetings.
Collaborates with the Transition Specialist, Transition Technician, VR Counselor, and students’ instructors.
Takes all reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assists in activities associated with the recruitment and screening of potential TSW students.
Collaborates with team on procedures necessary for determining student eligibility for TSW class and outside agency supports.
Leads teams and students in initial transition planning.
Orchestrates transition planning with students, other TSW staff, parents, school district personnel, related support services, and appropriate adult services.
Develops the TSW lesson plans used for the service provision.
Teaches the TSW curriculum.
Maintains record keeping and activities that ensure proper documentation of TSW students.
Incorporates use of educational technology with students.
Performs other duties as assigned or required such as teaching or co-teaching other content sections.
TSW Transition technician will work directly with TSW students to assist them in acquiring skills needed to complete a successful school to work transition; technician will assist in recruiting potential students, gathering documents, and meeting with parents to assist in Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) eligibility application process; the technician will implement a system to disseminate TSW information to potential employers, analyze work sites to match with TSW students, collect data as necessary to document students' progress on the job, maintain an accurate case file for students, and complete assessments with students to find strengths and weakness. The technician will participate in IEP team meetings and complete appropriate assessments for each student; Look for outside agency resources/referrals for student if applicable i.e. RSA (Vocational Rehabilitation) / DDD/ALTCS (Arizona Long Term Care); assist parents who are interested with Guardianship Forms; assist parents who are interested in Keeping Educational Rights (age 18+) with appropriate forms; assist with preparing students with any testing associated with transition goals (i.e. ACT; ASVAB; etc.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
Knowledge of developmental, physical and mental delays and disorders.
Knowledge of transition requirements and age of majority requirements.
Knowledge of special education or special needs accommodations.
Knowledge of post-secondary options offered by community agencies, service providers, training academies, community colleges, and universities.
Knowledge of appropriate teaching strategies and methods.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and other entities having business with SUSD.
Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing a variety of software applications.
Skill in writing routine reports and correspondence.
Skill in basic math and computing rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Skill in applying common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Skill in dealing with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, may require some lifting.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Child Development, or related to field or equivalent education plus years of experience (or will be completed within 1 year).
Special Education Certification preferred.
Experience teaching or working with high school age students preferred.
Experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
Salary Grade: 17 Hourly Pay: $17.10 Hours per Day: 8 Days: 208
