Description

Job Title: Director of Instructional Services (Mathematics & Science) (161) Department: Administration Reports to: Assistant Superintendent FLSA Status: Exempt Pay Scale: Administration Scale E

General Description: Directs, supervises and participates in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of the Mathematics and Science curriculum and instructional techniques. An employee assigned to a position in this class is responsible for overseeing instructional programs, on a division-wide basis, and providing support to teachers to improve instruction under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Coordinates, supervises, or provides direction for the alignment of the written, taught, and assessed Mathematics and Science curriculum throughout the division. • Plans for and implements curriculum guides and curriculum change through research, program assessment, and discussions with teachers, administrators, and central office staff members. • Assists teachers in developing effective instructional strategies through the utilization of formative and summative data • Provide coaching to teachers in the effective implementation of instructional strategies. • Participates in the selection and training of teachers involved in curriculum development and modification activities; participates in the selection and training of teachers involved in the selection of instructional materials. • Oversees the implementation of division-wide instructional expectations. • Organizes and conducts content specific staff development activities; collaborates with regional school divisions and institutions of higher education in developing appropriate staff development activities. • Works collaboratively with instructional support staff, building administrators, and lead teachers to promote and support classroom instruction that produces continuous improvement in student achievement in Mathematics and Science. • Participates in department/grade level reviews concerning academic progress of at-risk students who are not responding to interventions. • Monitors student academic progress through regular review and analysis of student achievement data to identify areas of growth and improvement to direct professional learning opportunities for staff. • Maintains and promptly submits accurate, complete, and correct records and reports as required by law, grant regulations, district policy, and administrative directives. • Directs and coordinates assigned district programs. • Attends region and state content meetings and Virginia Department of Education meetings and trainings as directed. • Attends board meetings and other special meetings upon request of the superintendent and assists with presentations of information and/or recommendations. • Serves as a contributing member of the leadership team and serves on assigned committees. • Maintains professional growth through graduate work, membership in professional organizations, attendance at seminars, and by reading related professional literature. • Coordinates district assessment of the effectiveness of the educational programs. • Contributes to the development of the annual plan for staff development. • Performs all other duties or special projects as assigned.
