Director of Organizational Diversity
Must hold a license issued by Virginia Department of Education.
The license must be in Postgraduate Professional License.
The license position area must be in Director – Equity/Employee Relations.
The license must be in one of the following grades: Preschool/Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th.
The license status must be active.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Director of Organizational Diversity will promote a culture of inclusion and embracing differences as a strategic opportunity to lead the Division’s effort to build a culture of equity and inclusion for all students, families, employees, and community. The Director of Organizational Diversity will guide efforts to define, assess, nurture, and cultivate diversity as an institutional and educational resource. The position defines the Division’s mission by providing direction and coordinating leadership to promote equity throughout the institution through a cross-disciplinary approach. This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and Equity.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develop, implement, and monitor programs and processes that promote and sustain equity and diversity throughout the Division.
Develop and implement strategies to monitor and evaluate district-wide progress toward eliminating the achievement disparities among students of all racial and economic groups.
Collaborate to develop and sustain classroom practices that work to maintain high achievement and eliminate the racial and economic predictability and disproportionality of student achievement.
Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and Equity and Chief Operations Officer to integrate diversity and equity practices into institutional employment and workplace practices.
Supervise the processes by which the district investigates concerns and complaints in areas of equity.
Collaborate with Curriculum and Instruction to ensure curriculum that is equitable, unbiased, and reflective of the district’s diversity.
Design and coordinate professional learning in the areas of equity and social justice.
Collaborate with Curriculum and Instruction and Professional Learning to develop a racial equity & cultural competency professional development course.
Coach and consult individuals and groups regarding equity and cross-cultural competency.
Act as the administration liaison to the school-based groups formed to address equity issues coordinate these efforts with School Improvement Plan Teams and other appropriate groups.
Work with Human Resources to ensure recruitment processes that reduce the disparity between the diversity in our student population and our faculty.
Solicit feedback and support efforts of parent groups advocating for traditionally underserved students.
Support student-based equity initiatives at the schools.
Remain current with the scholarship, pedagogy, and theoretical underpinnings of equity education and cultural competence.
Supervises licensed and non-licensed staff in designated departments.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS The duties of the Director of Organizational Diversity will have been satisfactorily performed when the evaluation of this person is at standard or above on the applicable Performance Appraisal Criteria.
