Special Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: 

Communication Skills(oral, written, or business): Basic communication skills to exchange information,  give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. 

Record Keeping: Ability to keep time sheets and record of daily activities. 

Reading and Interpreting: Reads and interprets routine written or printed material. 

Site: Safety and Security Services and various school sites. 

Grade Level: K-5 

Reports To: Supervisor of Safety and Security and Site Principals 

Job Goal (Purpose of Position): Perform semi-skilled level duties under limited supervision of the Supervisor of  Safety and Security and the site staff to assist students in safety crossing the streets at assigned crosswalks  surrounding a school site. 

Contact with Others: An incumbent in this position has regular contact with students, parents, and school staff  regarding general information and school rules for using the school crosswalks. 

Other Performance Measures: 

Successful performance of the job requires good people skills to deal with students and the public and often difficult  situations or people when safety of students is of top priority. It requires following safety and security guidelines and  policies in order that students cross streets safely and no harm comes to them at the crosswalks. It requires following  

school dress standards. being on time, being dependable and handling other district requirements. Creativity  initiative and effective problem solving requirements. Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving is  important to prevent problems from occurring and to resolve them after they occur. Incumbents must like working  with children. 

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Provide a safe and secure crosswalk for children walking, riding bicycles, etc. at designated school crosswalks. 

2. Enforce all District and school policies and rules in the operation of the crosswalk; abides by and enforces all laws  dealing with pedestrian traffic at the crosswalk. 

3. Report any problems or safety concerns arising at the assigned crosswalk to the Supervisor of Safety and Security  and/or the site principal. 

Supervision exercised: An incumbent does not supervise. 

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions: 

In a workday, the employee must stand or walk 2 hours and be exposed to all weather conditions. The incumbent  must have good vision and be able to physically pull a child out of danger.
