Career Director Job Description
The Northern Neck Regional Technical Center/ Governor’s STEM Academy Career Director works to ensure the students of the Northern Neck Regional Technical Center Governor’s STEM Academy are prepared for the workplace, have the necessary soft skills, and workplace skills for employment. The Career Director will work with local businesses to develop opportunities for full-time employment, part-time employment, internships, and cooperative education opportunities. The Career Director will help design career plans for students, teach people job search techniques and inform the students of the labor market. The Director will also keep records of client job applications along with local business job opportunities.
Career Director Requirements
Recommended: A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, counseling, or another related degree. Preferred: A Master’s degree in business, marketing, counseling or related occupational degree.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a liaison for the Northern Neck Regional Technical Center Governor’s STEM Academy, providing career direction and outreach to participating students.
Provide career development and job search counseling to Northern Neck Technical Center students in both individual and group settings, for both decided and undecided students.
Conduct regular outreach efforts including workshops and presentations to classes, student clubs and organizations.
Disseminate employment and internship opportunities to appropriate students.
Participate in employer development activities including employer visitations, advisory boards and on-campus recruiting, and the development of job and internship leads.
Research, evaluate & maintain online resources for a variety of career issues, academic majors and career fields.
Work closely with other staff members in the planning and coordination of career outreach and programs such as job fairs, career programs, and employer panels.
Ensure all testing and paperwork is completed and submitted to RCC for Dual Enrollment classes. Assist students with RCC application and administer VPT tests at the home schools and tech center as needed. Remediate reading and math for VPT retesting. Communicate with parents about DE requirements if needed. Distribute and collect Parent Permission slips. Go through NNTC applications for DE courses and determine who needs testing by looking up each student on collegemeasuredsuccess.com.
Oversee the Workplace Readiness testing and certification program. Work with students on resume writing and organize mock interviews for the graduating seniors. Create a spreadsheet with all industry credentials to send to each school and manage the data for all students and their Work Based Learning experiences while attending the Tech Center.
Conduct industry credentialing testing for all programs and Workplace Readiness for the Commonwealth testing for all students that need it.
Distribute scholarship information to all seniors by visiting classrooms and explaining procedures for applying: RCC, Community Foundation, John Bowie, NNTC Foundation, Antique Automobile. Communicate with scholarship committees to organize interviews, due dates, and decisions about winners. Attend scholarship nights at home schools and give out scholarships applications. Help students fill out scholarship applications and write recommendations. Assists students with essays.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: (10 MONTH) 200 DAYS
START DATE: January 4, 2021
SALARY /COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with the education and experience of the individual. The salary will be determined based on the amount of experience and the amount of benefits desired.
ELIGIBILITY TO WORK: A background investigation is required prior to employment. Applicants must possess criminal background and child abuse clearances and must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
