Special Education Parent Resource Liaison (10 MONTH)
Salary: $20.84 PER HOUR (Up to 28 Hours per Week)
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Assist parents in understanding the special education process regarding child find, evaluation, eligibility and dismissal.
Provide and explain information about available resources and services for children with special needs and their families.
Coordinate and promote the implementation of effective workshops and trainings related to current issues and concerns for families of children with special needs.
Encourage parent participation and foster parent-professional partnerships of children with special needs.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Maintain knowledge of current state and federal guidelines as well as principles, practices and procedures in relationship to special education.
Respond to and research, as necessary, request for information or assistance (e.g. phone calls, emails, etc.)
Schedule, develop, and present workshops on current topics related to children with disabilities
Create and distribute newsletters and information on topics relevant to special education
Assist in the dissemination of information pertinent to families of children with disabilities (ie, VDOE Parent Involvement Survey, Parental Rights, etc.)
Ability to attend monthly meetings with the Parent Resource Centers of Hampton Roads as well as the local Special Education Advisory Committee
Perform related work as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A degree in special education or a related field is not required, but is preferred.
Knowledge of Special Education and have experience in supporting families with children that have disabilities.
