Special Education Job Coach
Salary: $17,146 - 26,068
Position Purpose
Performs responsible human support and paraprofessional work assisting transition specialist by working with individual special needs students or small groups; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Transition Specialist.
Essential Functions
- Assisting Transition Specialist to achieve instructional objectives; assisting special population students with achieving established goals, with personal care and mobility; preparing and maintaining records.
- Assists Transition Specialist in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional objectives;
- Works with individuals for small groups to reinforce material introduced by Transition Specialist or businesses;
- Provides programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by Transition Specialist or businesses;
- Escorts students to and from special classes, therapy and job sites;
- Guides independent study and other work assigned by Transition Specialists and businesses;
- Report student problems to Transition specialist and assists with student problems;
- Assists students with mobility needs, assists with loading and unloading buses;
- Assists students with all job related activities while on the job (cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, removing trash, dusting, lifting, painting and other odd jobs);
- Participates in inservice training programs as assigned;
- Performs special assistance duties;
- Performs related tasks as required.
Equipment
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the teaching of special education populations;
- ability to maintain files and information; ability to deal effectively with special students, teachers and business representatives;
- skill in use of classroom, instructional and maintenance and custodial equipment;
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with student, teachers, parents and the general public.
Qualifications Profile
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in working with children
