Part-Time School Secretary: Secondary

Description
To assure the smooth and efficient operation of the school office so that the maximum positive impact on the education of students can be realized.
 
Reports To
Building Principal
 
Qualifications
  • High school diploma with post high school related course work preferred.
  • Competency in business/finance functions.
  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication.
  • Computer expertise.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may feel appropriate and acceptable.
 
Performance Responsibilities
  1. Provide prompt, friendly, courteous, and accurate service to administrators, teachers, support staff, students, parents, and visitors.
  2. Use appropriate office terminology, business mathematics, and English in communication and finance responsibilities.
  3. Keep staff and student attendance records and report them accurately to the Central Office.
  4. Type accurately and efficiently letters, statistical tabulations and data, form letters, memoranda, purchase orders, reports, grant applications, and other narrative materials.
  5. Use good judgment in determining appropriate procedures and methods to complete business tasks.
  6. Use a variety of office machines, computer equipment and software to complete business tasks.
  7. Respond promptly and courteously to requests made in person or by telephone.
  8. Promptly and accurately file a variety of materials according to prescribed procedures.
  9. Maintain financial records, posting receipts, and disbursements in accordance with standard school procedures.
  10. Respond to students in a pleasant, courteous, and helpful manner while maintaining a professional office environment.
  11. Assist teachers promptly and courteously in obtaining needed resources.
  12. Assist students and parents promptly and courteously with registration, applications, forms, and procedures.
  13. Maintain a helpful, pleasant, and professional attitude at all times.
  14. Assist with the processing and distribution of report cards and interim reports.
  15. Provide accurate information regarding preparation of grades, promotion, retention, and assessment to teachers.
  16. Promptly and accurately enter the computerized student information system (grades, discipline, change of address or telephone, etc.)
  17. Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as determined by the building administrators.
 
Physical Requirements
  • Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and to enter data into a computer.
  • See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels, indoors, outdoors and on the telephone.
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly indoors, outdoors, and on the telephone.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
 
Terms of Employment
Contract Length- Ten Months
FLSA Status-Non-Exempt
Salary to be established by the School Board in accordance with Classified Salary Scale (School Secretary.)

Evaluation
Job performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with Northampton County Public Schools supervision procedures.
