Instructional Technology Resource Teacher (ITRT) (10 month position)


Position Purpose:
This is a ten month position that will be involved in all aspects of instructional technology support in the school division. Responsibilities will include some building-level technology support and some division-level technology support. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Technology and the Manager of Information Services.


Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
The Instructional Technology Resource Teacher, ITRT, facilitates the integration of appropriate and effective technological resources and tools into the classroom, assists with curriculum development, provides technological support to division staff, and develops and facilitates professional development. Responsibilities of the ITRT position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist individuals or groups of teachers with the integration of technology into instruction.
  • Develops and facilitates technology related professional development for division staff.
  • Models effective instructional strategies focused on the implementation of technological resources.
  • Creates technology related resources for division staff.
  • Adheres to and promotes division security practices.
  • Reports and escalates, as necessary, issues reported by division staff to the appropriate department staff.
  • Engages in professional growth and continuous learning.
  • Cooperates with department staff members in promoting effective communication.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Director of Technology and the Lead  Technology Resource Teacher in accordance with the district's policies and practices.

Uses personal computers and related equipment.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must demonstrate exceptional knowledge of instructional best practices.
  • Must demonstrate intermediate knowledge of education technology integration best practices.
  • Must demonstrate intermediate knowledge of Suffolk Public School standard computers and peripherals, operating system software, Google Apps for Education resources, Teacher Access Center and a variety of division applications and online resources.
  • Must demonstrate interpersonal skills in working effectively with teachers administrators, students and staff in the application of technology.
  • Must demonstrate skills in communicating effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must demonstrate efficient time management and organizational skills.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Works in standard office and school building environments.  This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stopping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expression or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.           


Qualifications Profile:
  • BS degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have knowledge of a variety of instructional technological resources and a proven record of technology integration in the classroom.
  • Must have the ability to model technology integration with a focus on best pedagogical practices.

Terms of Employment:
  • Salary Range:  $45,000 - $75,379  ($2,944 Additional for Master’s Degree)
  • Contract:          10 Months
  • Benefits:           Employer Portion Paid Retirement, Life Insurance, Contribution to Medical Insurance, Sick Leave and Vacation
