Hampton Oaks Elementary Principal
Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the Principal provides leadership for the school staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive educational program and instructional program in accordance with school board policies and administrative regulations.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Oversees the day to day operations of the School's functions while facilitating long-term planning and goal efforts for student and school achievement. • Plans for the alignment of a tailored professional development system for licensed staff • Recruits, empowers, and effectively collaborates with PTO/PTA. • Demonstrates professionalism in working with staff and community. • Listens to others and is receptive to new ideas. • Shows sustained effort and enthusiasm in the quality and quantity of work accomplished. • Demonstrates loyalty to the School Division, the School Board, the Superintendent and all staff members. • Hires, evaluates and supervises school employees, including teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, administrative staff and any other employee of the school. • Delegates specific administrative tasks to the Assistant Principal (ex. special education designee responsibilities to ensure compliance with special education law, as well as share personnel evaluation efforts). • Assumes responsibility for instructional leadership and effective school management. • Delegates specific administrative tasks to the Assistant support and improve the school’s performance. • Develops plan for school success and a positive school environment. • Responds to all concerns of stakeholders (students, staff, parents, community members) promptly and in a professional manner. • Responds to student disciplinary matters. • Collaborates with and serves as point of contact for the SCPS Nutrition Department in the supervision of nutrition staff. • Reviews and addends written job descriptions for all school staff as needed. • Develops a policies and procedures handbook for the school which is consistent with School Board policies and Division regulations. • Supervises the maintenance of accurate school records and reports. • Approves the master teaching schedule, coordinates the scheduling process and makes necessary assignments. • Supervises and evaluates the school's co-curricular and extra-curricular program. • Attends school sponsored activities. • Implements the School Board's student Code of Conduct effectively. • Assumes responsibility for a safe and healthy school environment. • Participates in the selection, supervision, and assignment of all school building personnel. • Assumes responsibility for the supervision and evaluation of all licensed and service personnel. • Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. • Keeps the Superintendent informed of the school's activities and problems. • Responds promptly and thoroughly to written and oral requests for information. • Assumes responsibility for the organization and administration of the public relations program for the school, including all publications, official school correspondence and news releases. • Provides assistance in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum. • Supervises all curriculum and support programs to enhance individual student education and development. • Provides an orientation program for newly assigned staff members and assists in their development as appropriate. • Works cooperatively with various members of the central administrative staff on school related and county-wide issues. • Maintains school property in a neat, clean and appropriate condition and assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school property, buildings, supplies, and equipment. • Monitors the completion of inventories of all property under his/her jurisdiction and for the security, accountability, and distribution of that property, e.g., textbooks and computer technology. • Prepares and administers the school budget, supervises school finances, prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests, and monitors expenditures of all funds according to adopted procedures. • Maintains, controls and accounts for the various local funds generated by student and school related activities. • Facilitates the construction and follow-through of School Improvement Plans. • Participates in Principals' meetings, Division meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate. • Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Superintendent or designee. • Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and non-academic purposes. • Plans and supervises the emergency preparedness program, including fire drills, according to state law and Division regulations. • Provides for the appropriate safety of all personnel engaged in the school program and exercise decisive leadership in crisis situations. • Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees and councils within his/her school. • Assists in providing for the safe arrival and departure of students. • Works in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers. • Maintains a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position. • Adheres to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures. • Maintains a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality. • Serves as an optimal role model for students, colleagues, and the general public. • Complies with all District and School policies and regulations. • Pursues professional growth activities. • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
