Teacher - Dual Immersion Spanish & English @ DCE, open until filled
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned) • Teaches the Utah State Core and Wasatch County School District Standards and Benchmarks for Elementary Education at the 5th grade level in fluent Spanish. • Develop Spanish, dual immersion lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child. • Translate Spanish lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instructions. • Communicate with parents of Spanish Dual Immersion student’s through conferences telephone calls, emails, student planners, school website, and other means to discuss the pupil’s progress. • Models Principles of Effective Teaching and maintains a professional demeanor. • Performs ongoing, frequent and specific assessments to gauge the learning of students in both English and Spanish. • Models the characteristics of behavior as outlined in the Wasatch County School District Character Education statement. • Instructs effectively with technology of Smart Board, including the Internet, and teaches tools of technology within coursework. • Provides authentic cultural model. • Offer authentic cultural experience for students. • Teach Hispanic culture formally and informally. • Modifies instruction and assessment for students with disabilities in English and Spanish. • Modifies instruction and assessment for students whose native language is other than English/Spanish. • Demonstrates professional etiquette to colleagues and is a contributing member of the school’s community. • Actively involves American and Hispanic parents in their child’s education, including the provision of frequent indicators of progress and upcoming lesson objectives and standards. • Confers with students, parents, and school counselor/administrator to resolve student concerns. • Selects, stores, orders, issues, cares for and inventories technological equipment, materials, and supplies used in the classroom. • Fosters cooperative social behavior to assist children in forming satisfying relationships with other children and adults. • Encourages and teaches students in singing, dancing, rhythmic activities, and in use of art materials, to promote self-expression and appreciation of aesthetic experience. • Instructs children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care. • Maintains a welcoming, orderly, safe and attractive physical environment in the classroom. • Establishes and maintains high standards of student behavior with a planned behavioral system. • Daily groups students to provide practice in Spanish language concepts. • Incorporates Schools-to-Careers as appropriate. • Annually completes and Individualized Student Education Plan (SEP) for each student in both English and Spanish with the students and his/her parents. • Prepares lesson plans in English and Spanish for substitutes with an Emergency and Behavioral plan. • Participates throughout the year in ongoing professional development in areas of ESL, Bilingual and General Education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise students, volunteers, student teachers, parents, aids, and paraprofessionals.
