PRESCHOOL PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND LEAD TEACHER 

Position Purpose

Direct administration of the preschool program and lead instruction of students in the preschool classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives. Supervise program paraprofessional(s)

Essential Job Functions

Preschool Director will be supervised directly by the principal and preschool coordinator. Duties Include:

  • Adhear to high expectations in regards to their performance and effectiveness to ensure the success of the individual and the School in serving students and the community. 

  • Utilize the state Model Evaluation System (RANDA) that consists of standards, elements, and performance indicators. A teacher’s demonstrated effectiveness is based on the rating of each standard within the evaluation system.

  • Successfully fulfill the requirements of the Preschool Director (small center). 

  • Provide instruction that is aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards and their School’s plan of instruction. Develop and implement lessons that connect to a variety of content areas/disciplines and emphasize literacy and mathematics

  • Establish safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.

  • Plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students.

  • Demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection and leadership.

  • Demonstrate high standards for professional conduct.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to serve as both the Lead Preschool Teacher and the Preschool Director 

  • Effective interpersonal skills

  • Able to remain calm in stressful situations

  • Highly organized and efficient time management

  • Trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques or willingness to be trained

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public

  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language and comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

  • Must pass pre-employment physical

  • Must pass a physical examination

  • Must pass background checks through CBI, FBI and TRAILS

  • Must complete First Aid and Infant, Child and Adult CPR training within 60 days of hire and maintain as required

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

-  Works in standard office and school building environments.

-  Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
 

Qualifications Profile

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

-  High School diploma or equivalent. 
-  Prior experience working with young children desirable.
-  Ability to pass a background check.
-  Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, experience in Early Childhood, or Early Childhood Credential Level I highly preferred.

Additional Qualification Requirements: (may be completed after hire)
Applicants please note: There are training requirements that you must meet for first aid, cpr, child abuse and neglect if hired. Additionally, all staff have to have 15 hours of continuing education in certain specified topics each year. Once hired, the school will support you in this process. 

Additionally, we would prefer candidates who meet or would be willing to meet the following requirements for Assistant Early Childhood Teacher: 

1. Completion of one of the early childhood education courses in the Code of Colorado Regulations Section 7.702.42, A, with a course grade of “C” or better and twelve (12) months (1820 hours) verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children less than six (6) years of age, who are not related to the individual. Satisfactory experience includes being a licensee of a family child care home; a teacher’s aide in a center, preschool or elementary school. Assistant early childhood teachers must be enrolled in and attending the second (2nd) early childhood education class which will be used as the basis for their qualification for the position of early childhood teacher; or

2. Persons having completed two (2) of the early childhood education classes referenced in the Code of Colorado Regulations Section 7.702.42, A, with a course grade of “C” or better and no experience; or, 

3. A current early childhood professional Credential Level I Version 1.0 or 2.0 as determined by the Colorado Department of Education.
