Teaching and Learning Department Teacher Specialist K-6 Mathematics full-time
Must hold a license issued by any agency.
The license position area must be in Elementary Teacher.
The license must be in one of the following grades: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th.
Under the direction of the Administrator of Teaching & Learning (T&L). the Teacher Specialist serves in a collegial, non-evaluative leadership role within schools and and at the District level. Will support and facilitate effective instruction and professional growth in a broad range of areas (i.e. Science, Math, STEM., Dual Language Immersion, Literacy, Technology, Gifted and Talented, Mentoring, etc.) Assist with the development and implementation of T& L goals, strategies, evaluation and other support materials, and appropriate programs as assigned.
Requires a deep knowledge and understanding of mathematics K-6. Must also demonstrate an extensive understanding of the progressions of mathematics topics across grade levels, as well as how mathematics concepts and skills develop throughout the grades. Requires demonstrated experience and proficiency in supporting and providing effective student Centered mathematics instruction as well as proficiency experience working with teachers to assist them in designing student-focused learning experiences that provide opportunities for students to explain and justify that thinking via academic discussion, solve math problems using multiple approaches, share their thinking with peers, and receive ongoing feedback on their mathematical thinking. Utilize and build upon learners' existing knowledge, skills, understands, conceptions, and misconceptions to advance learning. Demonstrate an understanding of learning trajectories related to particular topics in mathematics and use the knowledge to select, organize and deliver instruction that is developmentally appropriate and responsive to individual learners. Demonstrate an understanding of cultural difference among learners and utilize this knowledge to motivate and extend learning opportunities for individuals. Requires proficiency in the formative assessment cycle and be able to find or created appropriator resource for this purpose. Must be proficient in the analysis of formative and summative assessment results, in order to make appropriate interpretations and communicate results to appropriate and varied audiences.
