Cañon City School District RE-1 is accepting applications for an ELEMENTARY TEACHER - INTERMEDIATE at Washington Elementary School for the 2020/2021 school year. Starting salary will depend on experience and education; placement is on the “(166)” Teacher Salary Schedule, with entry level candidates starting between Step 1 and Step 10.  The position requires the following:
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree or higher 
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License, Elementary Education endorsement
  • Strong knowledge of literacy development, instructional programs and practices, and assessment 
  • Ability to employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies
  • Desire to incorporate hands-on learning approach with traditional curriculum
  • Promote learning skills of critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity
  • Ability to create a positive learning environment for elementary-aged children
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work with classroom teachers to facilitate/coordinate scheduling of classes and conferences with parents
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical
  • Ability to provide assessments and intervention for students with identified literacy concerns
  • Preferred experience with DIBELS assessment and progress monitoring
  • Preferred experience with Aims Web and Alpine Achievement
  • Familiarity with CBLA (Colorado Basic Literacy Act) and its impact on adolescent learners
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public 
  • Ability to work in collaborative environment
  • Knowledge of student developmental stages
  • Ability to communicate with multiple publics
  • Resiliency and flexibility in the face of change
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language and comply with directions and instructions to complete task and establish priorities. 
  • Possess skills to be able to utilize basic technology as directed by the District to communicate and function effectively as a 21st century employee.  
 
DUTIES:
•    Teachers are held to high expectations for their performance to ensure success of the individual and the District in serving students and the community.  Teachers are held to the District’s Licensed Personnel Performance Evaluation System that consists of the State’s Quality Standards, elements, and performance indicators which point to fulfillment of the teaching responsibility.  A teacher’s demonstrated effectiveness is based on the following standards: 
 
Standard I: Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach. The elementary Teacher is an expert in literacy and mathematics and is knowledgeable in all other content that he or she teaches (e.g. science, social studies, art, physical education, or world languages). The secondary Teacher has knowledge of literacy and mathematics and is an expert in his or her content endorsement area(s).
  1. Teachers provide instruction that is aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards and their district’s organized plan of instruction.
  2. Teachers develop and implement lessons that connect to a variety of content areas/disciplines and emphasize literacy and mathematics
  3. Teachers demonstrate knowledge of content, central concepts, inquiry, appropriate evidence-based instructional practices, and specialized characteristics of the disciplines being taught.

Standard II:  Teachers establish safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.
  1. Teachers foster a predictable learning environment characterized by acceptable student behavior and efficient use of time in which each student has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and peers.
  2. Teachers demonstrate an awareness of, a commitment to, and respect for multiple aspects of diversity while working toward common goals as a community of learners.
  3. Teachers engage students as individuals, including those with diverse needs an interests, across a range of ability levels by adapting their teaching for the benefit of all students.
  4. Teachers work collaboratively with the families and/or significant adults for the benefit of students.
 
Standard III:  Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students.
  1. Teachers demonstrate knowledge about the ways in which learning takes place, including the levels of intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of their students.
  2. Teachers use formal and informal methods to assess student learning, provide feedback, and use results to inform planning and instruction.
  3. Teachers integrate and utilize appropriate available technology to engage students in authentic learning experiences.
  4. Teachers establish and communicate high expectations and use processes to support the development of critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  5. Teachers provide students with opportunities to work in teams and develop leadership
  6. Teachers model and promote effective communication.

Standard IV:  Teachers demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection and leadership.
  1. Teachers demonstrate high standards for professional conduct.
  2. Teachers link professional growth to their professional goals.
  3. Teachers are able to respond to a complex, dynamic environment.
  4. Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school, the community and the teaching profession.
•    Coaching and/or sponsoring of extra-curricular school activities may be assigned as needed to meet the needs of the students and the building.
