Fire Science Job Description
Weber School District is seeking a dynamic team player interested in making an impact in the lives of students as the Fire Science Instructor. The class must be taught in a safe and orderly manner in a neatly maintained facility. The instructor will be responsible for participating in the development of curriculum process with an emphasis on integrated curriculum and alignment of course competencies with the essential academic learning requirements. The instructor will also work with post-secondary institutions to develop articulation agreements; incorporate new and emerging technology into the instructional process. The instructor must have the ability to incorporate new and emerging technology into the instruction process as well as become involved with community and industry partnerships in the area.
Required: • Must meet requirements to obtain Career and Technical Education Certification; Highly Qualified in Fire Sciences subject(s) being taught is required. • Have at least 6,000 hours (3 years) experience as a firefighter. • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain).
Preferred: • Current firefighter or public safety similar certification strongly preferred. • Experience in Wildland Firefighting and/or Emergency Medical Training. • Experience working and supervising students in a classroom setting. • Experience and desire to work with high school students in developing their knowledge and skill to be employed in the fire science industry or to continue to post-secondary education.
Responsibilities: • Ability to build and foster partnerships within the community and promote Career and Technical Education programs. • Instruct, train, evaluate and monitor students while delivering current curriculum and competency based skills, relevant fire sciences and wildland fire industry information regarding firefighting strategy and tactics, equipment, skills, and industry safety to students working to obtain fire science and related industry credits. • Assist in the development and delivery of instructional guides, lesson plans, training aids and reference materials utilizing modern technology. • Provide a safe and open learning environment for the students. • Coordinate hands-on skills training, industry certification testing, and incorporate fitness training in curriculum. • Dedicated to professional growth and development. • Possess a team approach attitude toward fellow workers. • Establish and maintain a professional and positive working relationship with students, parents, school counselors, staff and the general public. • Desire to be a role model for students. • Record of dependability, flexibility, and regular attendance. • Ability to maintain confidentiality. • Ability to be a "team" player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships. • Implement equivalency competencies within the program. • Establish and implement policies, procedures and standards for the safe, efficient and effective management of the automotive tech class. • Ability to be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education. • Assist in ongoing professional development to maintain a current working knowledge relevant to their field. • Ability to be committed to success for all children. • Believe cultural diversity is a strength and have the attitude that we will meet the needs of any child who enters our school. • Ability to be flexible and cooperative in schedule changes and accommodating in other needs for use of facility. • Implement Section 504 and ADA in the education of students with disabilities. • Submits records, reports and assignments promptly and efficiently. • Deals with obstacles and constraints positively. • Demonstrates ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of his/her duties. • Seeks and takes advantage of opportunities for professional growth. • Maintains dress and appearance appropriate to a professional office setting. • A new employee is subject to a 180-day probationary period and must be evaluated prior to its end. Endorsement Requirements The following requirements must be completed prior to application:
1. Hold either a CTE license or a Secondary Education (6-12) teaching license. 2. Be currently employed and have six years of documented, related , fulltime, occupational experience within the 10 years prior to application. A related associate's degree may be counted for up to two years of occupational experience. A related bachelor's degree may be counted for up to four years of occupational experience. Documentation shall consist of a letter from a supervisor on company letterhead indicating duties, responsib ilities, and dates of employment.
