Reports to: Principal
Definition: Under the direction of the Principal, the College & Career Counselor is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive college and career counseling program that supports students and families in post-high school planning and a successful transition from high school to college and/or career.
Essential Functions:

General Responsibilities:
• Provide college and career counseling services to guide students and families in post-high school planning (e.g., group and individual counseling, workshops, information sessions) with a focus on juniors and seniors.
• Coordinate college event planning and implementation (e.g., college information nights, college fairs, college/university representative visits).
• Assist students and families in the college admissions and application process (e.g., weekly college application labs, financial aid process [FAFSA], scholarship information, application essay writing, resume design, interview skills).
• Collaborate with caseload counselors in the development and monitoring of students' four-year Education and Career Action Plans [ECAPs] (e.g., goals, college planning, career interests/options).
• Provide ongoing and timely communications to publicize college and career program information, events, and activities using a variety of methods (flyers, email, Google Classroom, newsletters, bulletin boards, videos, etc.).
• Provide assistance (such as workshops) to faculty in writing letters of recommendation (college letter writing) for students.
• Collaborate with the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department and CTE/JTED counselor to provide information and guidance to students and families about career pathways and post-high school readiness.
• Coordinate and implement activities to provide additional support to first generation, low-income, and/or underrepresented students and families to increase awareness about college access, success, and transition opportunities.
• Regularly review MaiaLearning information/data, including students' admission or other post-high school decisions (e.g., 2/4-year college, military, job placement, gap year).
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of colleges and universities including a variety of institution types and selectivity levels; build and maintain relationships with college/university admissions professionals.
• Serve as a general resource to students, parents/guardians, and faculty regarding admission criteria and college data.
• Use data to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the college and career counseling program.
• Maintain a resource library of current and relevant resources for students, educators, and parents/guardians.
• Maintain the high school college counseling website with current information and update the college and career planning guide, as needed.
• Pursue relevant professional development in the counseling and admission professional organizations (e.g., Rocky Mountain Association of College Admissions Counseling [RMACAC], National Association for College Admission Counseling [NACAC]) and stay current with national trends and changes in college/university preparation and admissions processes.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, parents/guardians, school administration, district personnel, and others.
• Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.
• Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the counseling profession.
• Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Governing Board Policy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
? Knowledge of counseling principles, practices, and theories with a focus on college and career counseling
? Ability to work independently and with a team
? Exceptional public speaking, presentation, writing, organization, and communication skills
? Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
? Experience in presenting workshops for adults
? Knowledge of and skill in multiple communication and technology applications such as Google apps for education, Microsoft tools, presentation software, and web-based resources
Conditions:
Evening activities are occasionally required.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
? Master's degree in school counseling or related field OR a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved
? Valid Arizona Secondary or Counseling Certificate
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
? Three to five years of experience in college counseling
