Title:   Supervisor of Food Service

Salary:   $63,811 - $97,048

 
Position Purpose:
Performs difficult technical and administrative work planning, implementing and supervising all food service activities of the School Division.
 
Essential Functions:

  • Acts as a designee in the absence of the Director
  • Assist in planning and directing of the food service operations
  • Plan, organize and implement various menus and accompanying instructions in compliance with federal, state and local policies and procedures
  • Assist in evaluating and testing new products and recipes
  • Monitor food and paperware inventory
  • Prepare menus for parents and staff for viewing online and in the schools
  • Assist in supervising school cafeteria operations in areas of record keeping, nutritional standards, forecasting, preparation and serving of food and sanitation standards
  • Assist with shelters during inclimate weather
  • Informs and advises the public, principals and staff on the interpretation, administration and enforcement of program policies, procedures, standards and guideline of the National School Lunch, National School Breakfast and other food service programs
  • Assist with federal and state reviews
  • Supervise with the planning and pricing of all catering
  • Organize/Manage the catering crew
  • Organize and update the catering menu
  • Maintain nutrition analysis software with current nutrition data on all food items
  • Monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Receive suggestions from the managers and assist with resolving the problem(s)
  • Make recommendations for system policies, regulations and procedures, equipment and the layout for new or remodeled cafeterias
  • Develop and implement marketing and promotional programs to increase participation and revenue
  • Assist in the planning of monthly manager’s meetings
  • Prepare and submit performance reports
  • Assist with the training of new employees
  • Be familiar with F&NS policies and guidelines of the managers, contracted workers and substitutes
  • Must be familiar with the software NutriKids
  • Ability to learn a variety of job descriptions
  • Assist in professional development of managers and other staff
  • Must be CPR Certified or be able to obtain CPR Certification
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally an in writing
  • Oversee the purchase, delivery and storage of food supplies; maintain adequate inventories and ensure standards of quality are met
  • Must be familiar with the use and operation of the POS terminals and food service software
  • Implement food safety policies and standards 
  • Make sure products meet quality standards, educating managers, and assist with Food safety audits
  • Performs related tasks as required

Education:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in foods, nutrition or institutional management and considerable experience in food service in an institutional setting including some supervisory experience.

Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Possession of a health certificate for food preparation issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Possession of membership in and certification by the American School Food Service Association.
