Mail Clerk Job Description
Job Title: Mail Clerk
Credentials: None required for this position.
Education: High school diploma or GED

Reports to: Warehouse Foreman
Contract: 260 days

Essential Job Functions:
Receive and sort incoming mail from the Post Office and deliver it to the appropriate site.
Receive all outgoing mail twice daily; meter postage on authorized mail; sort all (bulk) mail into zip code order, and deliver mail to post office.
Receive and deliver intra-district mail not requiring postage.
Maintain and safeguard postage meter and keep accurate accounting for all postage sent.
Deliver small warehouse orders.Pick up and deliver sweepers and audiovisual equipment for repair. Pick up and deliver live science; computers; audiovisual bags and other small items.
Maintain warehouse and equipment, including assigned vehicle.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Employees must possess the basic communication skills to exchange information, give and receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. Employees in this position may be required to perform routine computations requiring a knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals and/or percentages. The employee must use tools or equipment in a manner requiring competence and must meet certain performance standards which normally would be gained by on the job exposure or training. In a workday, the employee will stand/walk 2-6 hours per day. Employee's job requires frequent bending/stooping; occasional squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulder; and frequent to continuous pushing/pulling.Employee's job requires frequent carrying/lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional carrying/lifting of up to 90 pounds in order to deliver school furniture, supplies, mail, special warehouse orders, televisions, etc. The job requires the employee to use both feet for repetitive movements and both hands for such repetitive actions requiring a simple to firm grasping and/or fine manipulation. The employee must possess manual dexterity to operate postage machine, drive vehicles, pick up small items; must possess visual ability to read the small print and see small items. The employee must possess hearing/speaking ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone. Employee's job requires occasionally working on unprotected heights; Use of/close to machinery; working in the outdoors with temperature changes, and driving motorized equipment. Employee must be able to work with Excell and Spreadsheets.
