Principal (For hire July 1, 2020)
The Principal, Elementary directs the development of the school vision, and establishes and maintains the school philosophy and educational programs, consistent with community characteristics and school division goals and practices. This job reports to the Executive Director of Elementary Instruction.
The Douglas MacArthur Elementary School. Named after five-star general Douglas MacArthur, the school is a welcoming and inclusive community. As a Responsive Classroom School, the school fosters a belief that a quality education for every student is based on the foundation of a safe and joyful learning community. MacArthur enjoys a reputation for having a strong academic program, talented faculty and involved parents and guardians. The school will be temporarily relocated in July 2020 – January 2023 for new construction. This principalship requires facilities management skills to open a school in a swing space building, operate the school in a swing space building, and move the school to the new school facility in January 2023. Douglas MacArthur Elementary School is a member of the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) in Alexandria, Virginia. The school division serves more than 15,500 students who hail from more than 114 countries and speak 119 languages.
