Responsible for providing academic and behavior supports to students in various levels of State’s care or those who have been excused from their home school for a safe school violation. Responsible for creating a classroom environment based on the principles of Restorative Justice favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to return to their home school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Support students to improve academic skills and student achievement with research-based instructional strategies • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child. • Evaluate entering students’ skills, academic progress toward graduation and behavioral supports needed to best support student achievement during the program stay • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, academic, social and psychological challenges. • Requires strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and staff. • Requires strong computer and educational technological skills. • Requires effective problem solving, organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills. • Requires the ability to implement effective teaching strategies. • Requires the ability to establish and maintain a positive learning environment. • Requires the ability to calmly handle classroom management issues. • Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with pupils, parents, school staff, district staff, and patrons. • Requires the ability to work as a member of a team as well as the ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
