Summer School Teachers

High School Summer School will be held at Lakeland High School and is designed to provide opportunities for approximately 240 students to complete a new course or repeat a course previously taken.  The proposed summer school program is a tuition based program that is contingent on student registration/enrollment.  Some students may have to take the course through a virtual medium.

Each high school will be responsible for hiring their own staff and tracking their own students.  In most cases, teachers will be assigned students from the school in which they applied, however, this may not always be the case.  
Rate of Pay:  Teachers:  $31.50 per hour

The Summer School program will be held from Monday, June 29, 2020 through Thursday,  July 30, 2020, excluding July 2, 2020, (19 instructional days).  Instructional days will not occur on Fridays.  

Courses will be scheduled as follows:

Repeat Courses:  

Morning Session                                7:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Late Morning/Afternoon Session        12:00 PM - 4:00 PM


New Courses

All Day                                                  7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
                                                             (Break - 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM - Lunch not provided)


Some classes (New and Repeat) are virtual/blended courses and will meet twice a week following the time schedules listed above.

Graduation Ceremony will be held in the Lakeland High School auditorium on July 29, 2020.  

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  • Maintains familiarity with district and State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.
 
Certification/License:

  • Must hold Valid license with Endorsement.
Education:
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Experience:
Successful prior teaching experiences is a plus.
