ELL Coach
  Purpose
         The job of ELL Coach is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the educational process with specific
         responsibilities for planning and monitoring the implementation of English Language Learners intervention
         program and services, providing information, serving as a resource to others; achieving defined objectives by
         planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, supporting teachers to implement best practices in the area of
         learners at the school sites as require by state and federal mandates; providing support to district and school
         personnel; maintaining student data for audits; and coordinating the language assessment to ELL students.
         This job reports to Assigned Administrator
  Essential Functions
        Analyzes class and grade level data in English language acquisition at assigned elementary school(s) for the
         purpose of sharing information with teachers and making informed decisions relative to instructional
        practices.
        Assesses skills and needs (both initially and ongoing) of teachers and students within an elementary school
        setting for the purpose of determining the kinds of professional development and strategies needed to
        increase the language acquisition in English of our students.
        Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. building principals, lead teachers, parents, community
        members, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
        Communicates with parents, district personnel and others for the purpose of building rapport and positive
        interpersonal relationships between all parties to ensure that required documentation and support of the ELL
        program are adhered to.
        Communicates with a variety of parties (e.g. instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, students,
        etc.) for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions; achieving
        established program objectives and/or and planning curriculum.
        Conducts subject specific meetings and/or trainings for the purpose of coordinating instructional activities
        including disseminating and receiving information, planning and implementing curriculum, while providing
        support to the instructional staff.
        Coordinates program components, support needs and materials for the purpose of delivering services which
         conform to established guidelines.
        Designs curriculum programs and related materials for the purpose of providing support and resources for
        classroom teacher use to enhance student learning.
        Develops long and short-range plans for the purpose of ensuring that program objectives are achieved.
        Facilitates meetings, workshops, trainings, etc. for the purpose of providing professional development
        opportunities for ELL teachers, principals and administrators for the ELL program.
        Increases knowledge of current ELL intervention programs by attending trainings for the purpose of keeping
        up with any program changes.
        Maintains ELL documentation (e.g. parent notifications, home language surveys, refusals of ELL services,
        attendance records and WICP plans for the ELL tutoring program, etc.) for the purpose of providing
        information in compliance with state auditing requirements.

        Monitors the ELL tutoring intervention programs for the purpose of ensuring compliance with State and
        Federal regulations.
        Participates in professional development activities (e.g. District workshops, self-directed of newest trends in
         ELL instruction, etc.) for the purpose of providing implementation of optimal ELL methods, materials, and
        assessments to enhance curriculum developm.
        Provides program director with documentation/student achievement data as requested for the purpose of
        maintaining up to date information for reporting, data requests or audits in accordance with district guidelines.
        Researches variety of program related information for the purpose of evaluating compliance requirements
        and impact on district operations.
        Synchronizes the administration of the language assessment to ELL students (e.g. AZELLA, etc.) for the
        purpose of determining ELL or non-ELL status.
        Trains teachers and new staff members (e.g. support plans, in-service meetings, teaching techniques, test
        administration and test preparation training, etc.) for the purpose of improving teacher performance in ELL
        related areas.
  Other Functions
        Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning
        of the work unit.
  Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
     Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
     SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet
     changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
     include: operating standard office equipment including using a variety of software applications; planning and managing
     projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
     KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read
     technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to
     define issues and draw conclusions.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the
     functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; concepts of grammar, spelling
     punctuation; curriculum adoption process; program planning and development; methods of instruction and training; and
     ELL concepts.
     ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and
     use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances;
     analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods.
     Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related
     equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires
     independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based
     competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities;
     communicating with diverse groups and individuals; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part
     of a team; and working with detailed information/data.
     Responsibility
     Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing
     other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; operating within a defined
     budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is
     some opportunity to effect the organization’s services.
     Work Environment
     The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting,
     carrying, pushing, and/or pulling,   and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 50%
     walking, and 10% standing.  This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

     Experience:           Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
     Education:            Masters degree in job-related area.
     Equivalency:         Bachelors in job related area.
