Our Mission and Purpose: Legacy Traditional schools is dedicated to providing motivated students with the opportunity to achieve academic excellence in an accelerated, back-to-basics, safe learning environment taught by caring, knowledgeable, and highly effective educators in cooperation with supportive, involved parents.
Position OverviewPosition is responsible for providing direct instruction using a Back-to-Basics curriculum including Spalding (reading & writing), Saxon Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Essential Duties & Accountabilities
- Teach gifted students the established gifted curriculum for Legacy Traditional Schools for gifted students in grades 1-8.
- Create (with input from the school’s administration) a schedule of pull-out services including two pull-outs of up to 30 minutes, twice per week, for students in grades 1-2. Additionally, the teacher will also create a schedule of pull-out services for students in grades 3-6, twice per week for up to 60 minutes each session. Students in grades 7-8 are offered an elective course in giftedness that occurs daily. If there are not enough students to have this elective course, students in grades 7-8 will be offered two pullouts per week for up to 60 minutes per session.
- Keep all records of gifted students’ testing in a secured file drawer/cabinet and update on a google document provided by the school district.
- Conduct gifted screening/testing for students upon parental request.
- Sponsor for the Odyssey of the Mind Team and accompany team to all competitions.
- Provide professional development sessions in Academic Vocabulary, Depth of Knowledge, Depth and Complexity, and Identifying Gifted Students, for the general education teachers on their campuses on an annual basis. (The gifted teacher will receive training in these areas from the district.)
- Provides a safe structured environment, focusing on Patriotism and Character Building, using a Positive Discipline Program.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school curriculum.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines.
- Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state testing program, as needed.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- The gifted teacher must be a disciplined individual who can work in autonomous environment.
- Depending upon the number of gifted students in the school, the gifted teacher must have the ability to act as a substitute teacher on Fridays and/or Mondays, by their school’s administration.
- Ability to follow all gifted policies and procedures as established by school.
- Positively interact with all students.
- Create a safe learning environment that is conducive to learning.
- Capable of designing lesson plans to meet student needs and school & state requirements.
- Able to employ varied teaching strategies and best practices that effectively teaches the curriculum.
- Ability to identify individual student needs.
- Good communication skills with, students, coworkers, administration and parents.
- Ability to collaborate with other teachers and school staff.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the teaching profession by utilizing resources for professional development therefore, improving the education that is provided.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education
- Arizona Employees:
- Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Arizona Teaching Certificate (with appropriate certification for grade or subject)
- Nevada Employees:
- NV Fingerprint Background Check
- NV Teaching License (with appropriate certification for grade or subject)
- Appropriately Certified in grade or subject according to ESSA requirements and Department of Education
- The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
- Must possess strong communication and organizational skills.
- Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

- As funds allow, this may be a Title I federally-funded position with responsibilities that align to federal requirements. The continuation of this position will be revisited annually based on funding.
