Elementary School Counselor
Must hold a license issued by any agency.
The license position area must be in Counselor/Guidance.
The license must be in one of the following grades: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th.
The license status must be active or about to graduate from a state-approved teacher preparation program.
Description
The job of the school Counselor includes providing support to students in the instructional and developmental process. School counselors assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of a school’s counseling and guidance program to meet the individual and diverse needs of all students through individual planning and responsive services
Coordinates and collaborates with teachers and other school personnel resource specialists and/or community (e.g.Reading resource staff, Courts, child protective services, etc)
Counsels students, parents, and guardians to enhance student success in school
Develops a variety of programs for providing information to assist students in difficult situations and successful school transitions
Monitors students’ progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student success.
Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the school
Prepares a variety of materials (student activities, correspondence, audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Job Qualifications QUAlIFICATIONS 1 Professional Utah Educators Counselor license/endorsement or Professional UTah Educators license in SChool Social Work or State of Utah Social Work license either a CSW or LCSW
2 Professional communications skills: excellent written and verbal, confident, articulate and professional speaking abilities; empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills
