Job Description: A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a High Quality Behavior Professional aide. This paraprofessional position is for 5.75 hours per day, 9 months per year. This position is funded through a grant and will be funded on a year-by-year basis with no guarantee of ongoing employment. Purpose Statement: The job of High Quality Behavior Professional aide was established for the purpose of supporting teachers with students who demonstrate difficult behaviors in the regular elementary classroom. This will involve working with the Behavior Coordinator, Principals, and classroom teachers to model, guide, and support students toward appropriate behavior through implementing behavior plans, utilizing positive behavior supports, and collecting data.
Essential Functions: • Work under the direction of the Behavior Coordinator to intervene with students demonstrating challenging behaviors. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, engaging in the following activities with support and direction: • Utilize safe and appropriate procedures when managing students with challenging behavior • Interpret and implement written behavior plans • Engage in reinforcement strategies (desired items/actions, attention, or removal of demands/aversive situations) to increase the frequency or duration of safe and appropriate replacement behaviors and to build a repertoire of communication, social interaction, and problem solving skills • Utilize and model the implementation of positive behavior supports with students • Utilizes and models safe and appropriate prompting procedures to promote both successful and independent responding • Implements data collection systems, accurately collect and summarize data for the school • Collaborates with school team members to provide support effectively, and without disruption to the environment or other individuals in the environment
BASIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time • Must be able to move from sitting on the floor to standing position repeatedly • Must be able to utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior plans • Must be able to provide own transportation to various school settings with reimbursement provided as applicable
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS PREFERRED: High School diploma or equivalent
