High School (Grades 9-12) Social Studies/ Physical Education Instructor



  1. Hold or be able to obtain a Colorado Teaching License in the subject area of secondary Social Studies and K-12 Physical Education

  2. Possess a deep understanding of Geography, U.S. History, World History and an ability to connect Social Studies to the world outside the classroom.

  1. Possess a willingness to teach elective Social Studies courses such as Psychology, Sociology and Contemporary Problems.

  • Possess a deep understanding of various sports and activities.  Able to help students improve in skill development, as well as, knowledge of sport.  Willing to teach Lifetime sports, Competitive sports, and Weights

  • Possess the ability to use the teaching-learning model and implement research-based teaching practices which include but are not limited to differentiation, formative assessment, summarizing and various content reading skills.

  • Be able to create a positive learning environment for a diverse student population and prepare students to be active decision makers. 

  • Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop common assessments, analyze a variety of student data and work samples and be willing to help develop a standards-based program.

  • Participate in: a.) Department, team, building, and district meetings and discussions. b.) Student and/or family conferences and other meetings. c.) Social, cultural, interscholastic, and extracurricular activities. d.) Professional growth opportunities.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to: a.) Understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity. b.) Include and engage families in the student’s education. c.) Support all Platte Valley School District policies, procedures, and expectations.

  • Masters in History, Political Science, or Geography is desirable for teaching concurrent enrollment courses.

  • Candidate(s) with coaching experience will be given priority.
                        a.)  A positive record at the varsity level is required.
