Title: Part-Time Clerk Dispatcher (20 Hrs)   
 

Grade 11 Clerk/Dispatcher - Transportation 

Part-Time (20 Hours) - $10.35 Per Hour

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Performs intermediate clerical work requiring a qualified telephone operator and typist; does related work as required.  Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Transportation Supervisor.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

Communicating with school officials and parents concerning transportation matters; serving as clerical support to the Transportation Supervisor; serving as receptionist and telephone operator.

Answers telephone, processes mail, greets the public and provides information;

Receives and records messages;

Maintains a log of concerns and complaints involving bus routes and/or bus drivers;

Communicates with drivers and supervisors concerning mechanical, route, student, and school related issues;

Dispatches mechanics to buses when required;

Updates bus routes as changes are made by the transportation supervisor;

Operates standard office devices including computer;

Assists in the preparation of bus routes and schedules;

Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES

General knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of telephone courtesy; general knowledge of school bus transportation and school routine; skill in the use of computer equipment; ability to give directions; ability to meet the public effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by courses in business and typing and some experience in office technology.
