EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
    Master’s degree (School leadership or administration)
    Colorado Principal License
    Three years of successful teaching and a successful leadership internship
    PRAXIS (passed prior to interviewing)
Preferred:
    CPI training (May obtain certification after hire)
    Three years of assistant principal experience
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The assistant principal actively engages and problem-solves as a member of the results-driven administrative team.  Responsibilities include supporting and decision-making aspects alongside the principal of middle school operations in a highly diverse, high needs environment.  Additionally, this candidate will lead, support, and coach teachers to promote educational expectations and student well-being as they learn and achieve in an innovation school environment. The assistant principal helps design a culture that engages and encourages students to participate in co-curricular activities.
 
Essential Functions
Experience in School Leadership
The assistant principal inspires and models quality, shared decision-making leadership as the building administrator in the absence of the principal.  Assists the principal with the overall administration of the school.  Supervises student conduct within the schools, oversees disciplinary procedures and maintains records of any disciplinary action and/or restorative justice circles.  
 
Skilled in Communication, Assessments and Curriculum
The assistant principal communicates with stakeholders about assessments and leads the efforts to implement all student testing as the School Assessment Coordinator. At district level meetings regarding curriculum or assessment, the assistant principal represents Prairie Heights interests.  Works with the principal in facilitating advisory committees, addressing committee needs and in compiling appropriate data, information or reports.  Administers school procedures regarding attendance and supervises preparation of necessary reports.  Engages in community and family events. Communicates well both orally and in writing to various audiences, and has the potential or ability to lead groups with a shared decision-making approach.
 
Familiar with Maintaining School Facilities
 Additionally, interacting with stakeholders using the facilities while promoting Prairie Heights in the community. Assists the principal in supervising activities held in the school facilities.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities: Leads engaging conversations and encourages dialogue to enhance performance by sharing in staff evaluations.
 
Work Environment/ Physical Demands
Ability to sit for long periods of time, numerous distractions, visual, auditory and ambulatory acuity important
Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds
 
Travel
Some travel may be required

Knowledge, Skills, and Mental Ability

  • Knowledge of Colorado and district content standards.
  • Motivated to quickly learn the Summit curriculum platform.
  • Knowledge and skills sufficient to perform all duties of the position.
  • Prefers leadership situations relating to meeting the social, emotional, psychological and academic needs of students.
  • Prefers a work environment where flexibility, ability to deal with conflict, a high tolerance for stress, an ability to quickly internalize information and make informed decisions as part of the assignment.
