Teacher of the Visually Impaired
Must hold a license issued by Virginia Department of Education.
The license must be in one of the following types: Collegiate Professional License, Provisional License.
The license position area must be in one of the following areas: Deaf-Blind, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Physical Disabilities, Visual Impairment.
The license must be in one of the following grades: Preschool/Pre-K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th.
The license status must be active or about to graduate from a state-approved teacher preparation program. Expired certifications will be considered.
The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Teacher of the Visually Impaired to provide instructional support for students with blindness, visual impairment, and other disabilities. This is a 10-month, faculty position.
Responsibilities include: • Serve as a member of the instructional team with specific duties to provide classroom instruction for students in the areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum: Independent Living Skills, Sensory Efficiency, Assistive Technology, Compensatory Skills, Orientation and Mobility, Career Education, Social Interaction Skills, Recreation and Leisure Skills, Self Determination and Advocacy Skills • Provide TVI support to content teachers as needed to support student access to materials; including but not limited to transcribing content into braille and development of tactile materials • Co-teach with content teacher as assigned • Provide direct braille instruction to students per Individualized Education Plan (IEP) as assigned • Transcribe braille into print as needed for teachers and/or students
