JOB DESCRIPTION: American Preparatory Academy (American Prep) is seeking a full-time licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) for the 2020-2021 school year. The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is an essential team member at APA and works in cooperation with appropriate district supervisors, teachers, parents and students to provide diagnostic and intervention services for students with speech, language and hearing disorders. The goal of the SLP is to help students to adjust and access the general education curriculum. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties; Assess, screen, and evaluate students and effectively share results with parents and educational staff, and participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance with state and school division requirements and best practice Develop and implement individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with Speech/Language impairment and assists with IEPs for students with speech/language as a service on an annual basis or according to requirements Provides a supportive approach to the LEA in the areas of compliance with state and federal law and district procedures, academic procedures and APA policy and protocols. Provides consistent communication and full participation within the LEA team relating all issues of the special education student’s needs. Takes a leading role in understanding and participating in the process of informal resolution of complaints and due process issues notifying the campus administrator and district coordinator at the first sign of a dissatisfaction or identified concern. Works effectively as a team member communicating needs or challenges of a student with disabilities to the specific campus supports in place such as the administrator or other local campus SpEd peers. Commits to delivering the American Prep philosophy to all students equitably. Adheres to the American Prep Staff Manual. Assesses student achievement and develops plans to ensure student progress based on assessment data. Develops and maintains a stimulating and nurturing environment that meets student's individual and the class needs. Works with team partners or others as appropriate to develop curriculum that aligns with the American Prep standards and the school's charter. Participates in team meetings and offers professional guidance and input Engages in professional communication that meets American Prep’s communication policy. Utilizes data gathering and submits required reports in a timely manner. Shows empathy for and understanding of students. Develops with parents and students a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity. Other duties as assigned
