Primary Purpose:

Substitute for teacher/ instructional assistant/other positions as assigned and must follow instructions left by the teacher and maintain management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher and principal.




Sixty college hours preferred 

High school diploma or GED 

Twenty-one years of age for substitute teacher

Good moral character


Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively



Some experience working with children


Document Requirements:


    Official college and/or high school transcript

    W-4 form for income tax deductions, I-9, CHC forms

    Copy of fingerprint receipt

    Substitute handbook receipt

    All Human Resources forms required to be on file


Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  1. Substitute for teacher in presenting instructional materials and classroom displays.

  2. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.

  3. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

  4. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.

Student Management

  1. Conduct instructional exercise assigned by the teacher.

  2. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

  3. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
