Title I Reading Specialist
Prepares and delivers appropriate instruction and intervention to elementary students in accordance with Federal, Division and State guidelines. Works under the direct supervision of the building principal. Works collaboratively with the Title I staff under the direction of the Coordinator of Title I.
Demonstrated interest in working with students who have reading deficiencies.
Knowledge of developmental reading process and knowledge of identifying reading difficulties in students.
Ability to effectively use reading assessments/diagnostic reading tools as well as formative and summative assessments to guide tiered, differentiated instruction and interventions.
Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers in an inclusion setting
Knowledge of best practices and scientifically research based strategies in the core area of reading.
Demonstrated ability to successfully work with and engage students, colleagues, parents, and community members.
Ability to effectively implement all components of the balanced literacy model and to appropriately deliver instructional strategies that are tiered and differentiated.
Have knowledge and in-depth understanding of Virginia’s English Standards of Learning and strategies to ensure that students are highly engaged and achieve at a proficient level on state and district assessments.
