FAMILY MENTOR/DEAF MENTOR
 
Location: Phoenix 
Employee Status: Temporary
Hours Per Week: As Needed
Work Calendar: 12-Month
Pay Rate: $17.0200
Other: Works specifically with parents and children Birth-5 Years Old, in part providing information about Deaf culture and resources and opportunities to learn and practice ASL.
 
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Individual positions may be responsible for some or all of the listed duties and or/other related duties
  • Conduct home visits and/or center based classes to provide signing and literacy support as well as resource ingormation to families of deaf and hard of hearing children from 0-5 years of age
  • Work in collaboration with Early Childhood or Preschool Teacher
  • Serve as a liaison between families and the deaf community
  • Work in concert with families and the deaf community
  • Work in concert with families to help ensure language development, reading/comprehension, and life skills together
  • Maintain confidential files/reports based on Federal and State laws, rules, and regulations
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as requested
  • Continue professional growth through trainings and workshops
  • Communicate with Family Mentor Coordinator

SPECIAL CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass FBI and State background check
  • to be completed by all agency personnel that drive on State business
  • High School Diploma/equivalent
  • Fluent in ASL (American Sign Language
  • Significant work related skills, knowledge, and experience
