REPORTS TO: School Principal
JOB SUMMARY (2-3 sentences): Instructs students individually and in groups using various
teaching methods such as lectures, discussions and demonstrations. This position teaches
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: List, in the order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by
the position. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Job Responsibility 1: Plans daily lessons to meet the needs of all students and assists students
needing additional support. Adapts teaching methods and instructional
materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
Job Responsibility 2: Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and homework
assignments. Communicates those objectives to students.
Job Responsibility 3: Establishes and enforces rules of behavior and procedures for
maintaining order in their classroom.
Job Responsibility 4: Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and
administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
Job Responsibility 5: Designs and implements assessments that measure progress towards
academic standards and identifies gaps in learning. Uses assessment
data to refine curriculum and adjust instructional practices.
Job Responsibility 6: Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities and homework
assignments. Creates a positive achievement-oriented learning
Job Responsibility 7: Participates in collaborative curriculum development and grade-level
and/or school activities.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES, REQUIREMENTS, AND IMPACTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: “Education Requirements” refers to job specific training and
education required for entry into the position.
Bachelors’ degree in education or related degree.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: “Licenses, Certifications, and
Registrations” refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations
required to enter the position.
Must have a current Tennessee Teaching certificate or be in an eligible alternative licensure program.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: “Experience Requirements” refers to the amount of work
experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable
expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.
Prior teaching experience preferred.

Standing and walking: generally 6 hours per day (full duty)
