PATINS Specialist: with a strong focus on Emotional Disabilities, AEM & AT: Primary Age Integration, Apple Accessibility & Integration

Position Purpose            
Under the general supervision of the Director of PATINS, to assist students, teachers and parents in enabling students to derive the fullest potential educational experience from school by promoting positive self-esteem and resilience, and providing supports/instructional methods and plans for living successfully with identified psychological or mental health needs. This PATINS Specialist will be responsible for specializing in access to the curriculum for Indiana public K-12 schools as related primarily to: Emotional Disabilities, AEM & AT: Primary Age Integration, Apple Accessibility & Integration

Requirements

  • An open mind, high-creativity, positivity, and enthusiasm to learn, adapt, and grow professionally on a daily basis. 
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree and experience in a closely related education field. 
  • A fundamental knowledge of/experience with PATINS-ICAM is strongly preferred.  
  • Experience and knowledge in the areas of Accessible Educational Materials (AEM), Assistive Technology (AT), Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Awareness of federal and state rules and regulations governing the provision of services to students with disabilities in Indiana.  
  • The ability & strong desire to effectively, creatively, and positively support the mission of increasing access to and achievement in the general curriculum for ALL students in Indiana public PK-16 learning environments.  
  • Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication and stakeholder service skills to handle complex and sensitive interactions between PATINS staff and educators statewide.  
  • Strong conflict resolution and effective decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills to provide timely & accurate information and meet all reporting requirements.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines for a number of simultaneous job demands.
  • Effective, enthusiastic, creative, and positive public presentation, training and speaking skills.
  • Computer and technology skills including Microsoft Windows, Office, Mac OS, iOS, Google, cloud storage and documents, and excellent digital organization skills and a desire to frequently and routinely learn new technology.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently work both independently and in team situations.  
  • Ability to travel in-state, and less frequently, out-of-state. 
  • Teaching or practitioner’s license in related field not required, but beneficial and strongly preferred.
 
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director.
Amongst other duties, this primarily includes: Providing technical assistance, training, professional development, classroom observations/training/consultation, disseminating information and connecting regional administrators, service providers and parents with needed assistive technology, AEM, and UDL resources, and supporting all PATINS statewide initiatives. 
Additionally, a baseline of knowledge in the following areas is expected: general awareness of a variety of assistive technology, understanding of related federal and state rules and regulations, Mac, PC & Google fundamentals.

Travel Requirements
Travels to Indiana school district buildings and professional meetings as required as well as professional development.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child psychology principles, assessments, methods, behavior modification, etc., and current developments in child psychology.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.


Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Works in standard office and school building environments.  Potential for extensive time at a computer on occasion and for extensive travel in Indiana. 
                            

Qualifications Profile
  • State Certification/License in education or related service (SLP, OT, PT) preferred.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License and/or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in education or closely related field.
  • Master’s Degree in education or related field encouraged and preferred.
  • Experience
     Successful, 3-5 years, prior teaching or related educational/behavioral service experience.

Salary & Benefits: 
Exempt, salary employee
Teleworking option
Starting at $45,000 annually, with flexibility commensurate with education, training, unique skills, and experience.
200 Contracted Days. 
Eligible for standard benefit package, including insurance, PERF/TRF
