JOB OPPORTUNITY The Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts (SPA) is seeking an accomplished educator to assume the position of principal for the 2019-2020 school year. The principal serves as the chief administrative official, providing overall leadership and direction for SPA. The Salt Lake School for the performing Arts is a fully accredited, public charter school in Salt Lake City, Utah. SPA serves students in grades 9-12, where they receive outstanding training in the performing arts; and through a unique partnership with Highland High School students receive an excellent college preparatory academic education as well.
Job Description The Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts Principal will: • function as a visible leader. • act as the liaison and advocate for SPA with Highland High School and Salt Lake City School District. • work in conjunction with business manager to develop budgets and financial forecasts. • support recruitment of new students. • facilitate and support fundraising activities. • participate actively in SPA’s extracurricular and performance activities. • chair meetings to coordinate activities and ensure outcomes that achieve school, district and state objectives. • manage the hiring, probation, supervision, evaluation and termination process of faculty and staff. • mentor staff regarding student success in academics and social emotional learning. • create and implement policies and procedures in compliance with mandated requirements. • monitor and evaluate the overall effectiveness of the programs developed by staff. • manage all compliance components for accreditation, district charter sponsorship requirements, Utah State Board of Education/Salt Lake School District policies and procedures, and the special education program. • develop and manage the Land Trust Committee. • prepare and provide information to the Board of Trustees regarding school status and ideas for improvement. • report to, and assume all duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees.
The ideal candidate has: • experience working in a high school or secondary setting. • knowledge, experience and a passion for the performing arts. • an understanding about public school administration duties and significant experience as an administrator in a charter school setting. • the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and stakeholders. • the ability to prioritize effectively and creatively problem solve. • excellent organizational, operational and interpersonal skills. • experience with marketing and student recruiting
