High School Assistant Principal Job Description

This job description is an overview of duties and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed.
The HS Assistant Principal will be responsible for assisting with leadership, instructional management, staff and student supervision, daily operations, staff development, accountability, evaluation, and data analysis. The School A.P. will accomplish these duties while working with students, parents, other teachers and staff toward achieving the goals set forth in the Prospect Ridge Academy Mission Statements.
Specific duties include upholding the school’s mission and vision; creating partnerships and solving conflicts between/among parents, students and staff; overseeing behavioral expectations and discipline policies; assisting the Principal in conducting ongoing formal and informal evaluations; assisting in developing school-wide schedules; and consistently implementing school-wide discipline, supervision, safety and emergency protocols. 
Academic Leadership - School

  • Supervise operations in the Principal’s absence
  • Assist in the development and support of school schedule, classroom paraprofessional support schedule in collaboration with administration
  • Contribute and participate as a member of the Lead Team
  • Maintains and reinforces school's classroom discipline procedures
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of curriculum, instruction and data analysis
  • Support, help train and monitor Curriculum Mapping process, including K-12 alignments
  • Support, coordinate curriculum implementation
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan and School Improvement Plan
  • Help the Principal develop, collect and use school-wide data to track students’ academic progress, instructional development and school climate data
  • Develop testing schedule for school and state assessments in coordination with other Principals
  • Create the Assessment Calendar in coordination with other Principals
  • Facilitate the productive use of Alpine Achievement System for K-12
  • Train, monitor, and the development of IC Gradebook in collaboration with administration
  • Communicate with stakeholders in regards to the use of assessments and monitoring tools such as Alpine and IC
  • Oversee the Assessment budget in coordination with other Principals
  • Serve on Sub Committees
  • Articulate the school’s K-12 mission and vision to the community
  • Conduct formal and informal observations and evaluations of staff performance
  • Develop and distribute weekly communication to staff
  • Assist Principal in determining and implementing appropriate staff development
  • Oversee, train, and monitor the Para professional staff 
  • Mentor assigned teachers for improvement and also use coaching techniques to assist others in problem solving and development of goals
  • Help create/maintain partnerships within the school community; deal effectively with diverse staff and parent/student population and help solve conflicts
  • Support development of innovative instructional skills through modeling, peer coaching and staff development
  • May provide oversight of specific staff and programs as needed
  • Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods
  • Maintain and reinforce the school’s discipline procedures, including conducting investigations, communicating with parents, and holding students to restorative practices
  • Communicate and conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers in coordination with the Principal  
  • Promote a positive, safe and caring environment that supports student learning
  • Help create/maintain partnerships within the school community; deal effectively with diverse staff and parent/student population and help solve conflicts
Professional Responsibilities 
  • Attend after-school events as the 'administrator on duty'
  • Ensure compliance with policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State mandated school guidelines, except where PRA has received waivers.

  • Master’s Degree in education required
  • Certified or Eligible for Principal License
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience required
  • Leadership experience in a school setting required

Physical Requirements
  • The employee is regularly required to talk, walk, stand and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the High School Principal.
Working Conditions
Work is occasionally regularly performed inside and outside with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures. Work is performed in all weather conditions and includes exposure to moderate and sometimes loud noise. This is a highly public position that includes contact with students, staff, Administrators, Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors and parents. Occasionally work may consist of ten (10) plus hour days with weekend work as needed.
