Must hold a license issued by any agency.
The license position area must be in Orchestra.
The license must be in one of the following grades: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th.
The license status must be active or about to graduate from a state-approved teacher preparation program.
BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK: Under general supervision of a principal and/or other designated administrator, plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in grades 6-8. Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities, as required; carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities; performs related duties as required or assigned. Positions covered by this specification serve as general education middle school (6-8) classroom teachers; classes taught may be single or multi-grade level, subject, skill, or specialty oriented. Incumbents usually perform duties within a team or departmental setting, but might work independently in a unique teaching specialty. Some positions are assigned to science labs or industrial arts/technology or other education labs where greater than average monitoring is required to diminish the chance of accidental injury to students.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK: NOTHING IN THIS SPECIFICATION SHALL BE CONSTRUED AS IN CONFLICT WITH ANY PROVISION OF THE TEACHER PERFORMANCE EVALUATION PROGRAM, ITS STANDARDS, GUIDELINES, OR PERFORMANCE INDICATORS. The responsibilities of teachers shall include, but not be limited to: 1. Assessing student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes. 2. Planning appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities including determination of appropriate principles of learning, instructional organization and grouping, kind and level of materials. 3. Implementing an instructional program that provides appropriate learning experiences. 4. Managing the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process, and assists and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site. 5. Coordinating instructional activities with other professional staff, both school and nonschool-based, as required, maximizing learning opportunities. 6. Utilizing a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning. 7. As needed, requesting assistance of and working with resource personnel. 8. Working in a self-contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity, or at fieldwork site, as assigned. 9. Participating in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings, as required or assigned. 10. Continually assessing student achievement and maintaining appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes. 11. Fostering partnerships and ensuring continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress. 12. Continually communicating with students on instructional expectations and keeping them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations. 13. Managing allotted learning time to maximize student achievement. 14. Assigning work to and supervising instructional assistants, parent and student volunteers. 15. Ensuring classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are assessable to students and in good condition. 16. As assigned, serving at two or more schools on a regular basis as an itinerant. 17. Supporting or participating in school wide student activities and social events. 18. As assigned or required, monitoring student behavior in non-instructional area and intervening to control and modify disruptive behavior, reporting to appropriate administrator as appropriate. 19. Collaborating with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians, etc.) to carry out school wide instructional or related activities as needed.
