POSITION:  Communications Director

SALARY RANGE:  Administrative Staff Salary Schedule plus School District Comprehensive Benefits Package.  Salary Range of $85,332 - $100,528 depending on relevant experience and education.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:  This position supports student achievement by ensuring that the District’s public information program is aligned with District goals and drives specific behavior changes.  Directs and facilitates the development of accurate and timely internal/external communication and information processes that contribute to and encourage community involvement in the District’s efforts to meet the communication needs of the District. The Communications Director serves as member of the Superintendent’s executive team.  The Communications Director will attend executive team meetings to give advice on how to communicate changes and opportunities regarding District programs.   This personal also serves as the information liaison between the total school system and the community at large.  The Communications Director is an intermediary communicator between school administrators/officials and the media.
 
Essential duties include:
  • Develop, execute and measure the effectiveness of a district wide communications plan with a focus on delivering specific behavior changes as determined in cooperation with the superintendent.
  • Plan and manage budget for advertising, promotions, publicity and web site management, and public outreach activities as well as manage contracts for advertising, sponsorships and other promotional activities. 
  • Research grant and funding opportunities that will help support the communication and public relations goals of the District.
  • Contact media representatives to initiate articles and news releases about District programs; write interesting and effective press releases; communicate with media representatives about sensitive or controversial information; prepare information for press kits and other media information. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain crisis communications plans for the district and schools.  Serve as information liaison between the total school system and the community at large and as an intermediary between school administrators/officials and the media
  • Create and maintain relevant content on the district website, social media platforms,  which includes the use of logos and signage of organizational branding.  Design and edit promotional publications, such as brochures.  Ensure consistent branding and messaging.
 
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
  • BA/BS in marketing, business administration, public relations, communications or journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in public relations, communications, marketing or journalism.
  • A Master’s Degree in Communication or MBA preferred.

  • Assignment starting date is August 1, 2019. 
  • Successful completion of FBI and CBI background checks and submission of essential hire paperwork by the Human Resources office of Weld Re-8 School District.
  • All contracts/agreements for employment of personnel shall be subject to the approval of the Board of Education.
  • Direct deposit of payroll is a condition of employment.
  • No smoking is allowed in any Weld County School District Re 8 buildings.
