Mentoring Program Coordinator
Utah International Charter School is a small, very diverse secondary school in its seventh year of operation in South Salt Lake City. Our mission is to give English learners full access to a rigorous secondary curriculum by providing content-based, sheltered English instruction in every class, and to empower refugees, immigrants and American-born students with collaboration sills, critical-thinking skills, and diverse global perspectives. Eighty percent of our students came to the U.S. as refugees, and 80% are English language learners. We are collaborating with the Refugee Services Office, Department of Workforce Services to implement a mentoring and case management program that will help refugee youth, ages 15 to 24, both UI students and others, to succeed in high school and successfully transition to college, training, and employment.
