Description: District Science Coaches have specialized knowledge of science education practices and research, effective science instructional strategies, and varied assessment practices that support science teaching and learning.
Science coaches assist schools, teams and individual educators to successfully meet high standards, improve classroom instruction, and increase student achievement.
Current Utah Teaching License.
Secondary Science Endorsement.
Three consecutive years of successful and effective classroom teaching experience.
Broad range of professional development experience as a participant and facilitator.
Evidence of professional development in the Framework for K-12 Science Education (i.e. three-dimensional teaching and learning) and Utah’s Science and Engineering Education Standards (SEEd) for grades 6-8. (*Please include title, description, and hours for all professional development attended or facilitated within the past five years in Resume.)
Knowledge of Utah Core Standards, the K-12 Framework for Science Education, and Utah’s Science and Engineering Education (SEEd) Standards.
Thorough understanding of science content, including the developmental stages and/or standards for appropriate age and grade levels.
Experience working in collaborative groups in varied roles.
Ability to communicate effectively with district personnel, school administrators, and teachers.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching and learning and the ability to model effective strategies.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships.
Understanding of the value of data and appropriate use of assessment strategies and tools to support teachers in meeting student needs.
Ability to reflect on personal practice and engage in continual professional growth.
