Cañon City School District Fremont RE-1 is accepting applications for an EARLY CHILDHOOD/ PRESCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER.  This position will begin July, 2019. This position is for 174 days. Salary is based on Special Services Salary Schedule (Social Worker), with entry level candidates placed on Step 1 to Step 10, depending on education level and experience. The position requires:
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree required in Social Work, School Counseling
  • Valid Colorado Special Services License with Social Worker or School Counselor is mandatory.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working children ages 0-5. Preference given to applicant with experience working with children who are “at risk” for school success, have adverse childhood experiences, experience social and emotional concerns or have special education needs.
  • Post Masters work in infant toddler mental health preferred
  • Must have or complete the Harris Fellowship Training in Early Childhood Development and Infant Mental Health, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO during the first year of employment. Tuition and travel paid by Grant Funding if applicant is accepted for the position
  • Qualified individual will possess a strength based perspective and work in a collaborative manner with children, families, staff members, and community agencies
  • Prefer individual will have knowledge of child development and early childhood classroom or home visitation experience
  • Demonstrate cultural competence
  • Must possess ability to easily establish rapport with families and the early childhood team
 
SKILLS, ABILITIES, DUTIES:
  • Highly organized in paperwork and time management
  • Provide direct services to families and their children in the home, classroom, or alternate sites
  • Provide observation and feedback to preschool staff surrounding children in the Colorado Preschool Program
  • Provide consultation to Early Childhood staff surrounding children they serve with social and emotional concerns
  • Assist community childcare centers and preschool to develop and implement behavior plans and serve as a member of the Behavior Team
  • Provide Reflective Supervision as assigned
  • Participate in clinical supervision via telephone conference calls with the Mental Health Consultant from the University of Colorado
  • Plan for and facilitate in services trainings that include: Reflective Support, Ages and Stages S.E., DC: 0-3, and other trainings as assigned
  • Provide consultation for early childhood staff in group or individual settings regarding social and emotional issues of the children and families they are serving, discuss referrals or provide consultation as issues arise
  • Coordination with Early Childhood Mental Health Specialists during the twice per month Referral Team Meeting
  • Provide professional evaluations as requested for children ages birth to kindergarten
  • Actively participate in the Early Childhood Mental Health Action Team
  • Support the mission and goals of the District in developing compassionate, responsible, independent and productive citizens is critical
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language and comply with directions and instructions to complete task and establish priorities.
  • Possess skills to be able to utilize basic technology as directed by the District to communicate and function effectively as a 21st century employee.
