Reports To: Coordinator of Technology and Assessment

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: Works closely with the principal and division ITRT’s to provide effective support of curriculum and technology integration

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are based on the recommended guidelines from the Virginia Department of Education and include the following:

1. Works collaboratively with individual teachers or groups of teachers on the integration of technology into classroom instruction 

2. Disseminates information regarding technology resources, emerging technologies, best practices using technology, and professional development opportunities 

3. Conducts technology-related professional development to school staff

4. Models effective instructional strategies utilizing technology

5. Serves as a member of the school and division technology committees and supports the implementation of the division’s technology plan

6. Provides support to school staff and administration on the application and evaluation of various hardware and software packages and makes recommendations
    about their effectiveness 

7. Researches use of newer technologies in instruction

8. Assists teachers in developing and maintaining their webpage

9. Identifies trends in software, curriculum, teaching strategies, and other educational areas

10. Meets with other division ITRT’s to plan division-wide professional development to serve all three schools

11. Creates learning resources for teachers, staff, and students

12. Participates in the evaluation and selection of software and assists with the implementation of new software

13. Supports the IT department in troubleshooting technology issues in the school

14. Creates and monitors an online log for all school computer labs to ensure equitable teacher use and to protect the assessment administration calendar

15. Assists school testing coordinator with SOL administration and other school-wide assessments

16. Trains teachers and students to prepare for online testing

17. Performs all other duties assigned by the building administrators

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

1.       Holds a valid five-year renewable Virginia teaching license, advanced degree in curriculum and instruction (preferred) with specific endorsement in area to which assigned 
    
2.       Has a minimum of three years successful experience in education 
    
3.       Possesses the professional and interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, school and central office
          personnel, parents, community-based agencies, organizations and businesses and members of the community

4.       Has thorough knowledge of commonly used office and workflow technologies 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The ITRT must demonstrate the ability and professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community.  Must possess knowledge of curriculum and instructional design; strong foundation in pedagogy and teaching methodologies; skill in integrating technology with curriculum; experience using technology for productivity; ability to articulate and adapt communication and presentation style for various audiences.  The ITRT must be able to communicate effectively.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and hold a valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Duties performed typically in school settings include work in offices, computer labs, and classrooms.  Frequent walking, standing, stooping, sitting, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment such as technology equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds may be required.  Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word level; visual acuity is required for preparing and  analyzing written or computer data; determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.  Regular contact with staff members and administrators is required by phone, e-mail, or in person.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ten-month employment. Salary to be determined by the School Board.

EVALUATION

Performance of the position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Prince Edward County School Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
