Reports To: Principal

Job Goal: Provides support, guidance, and consultation in the identification of students with disabilities, the development of IEPs, and the provision of special education services in the least restrictive environment. In addition, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students.

Term of Employment: 10 Months

Responsibilities: (Include but are not limited to)

• Know and follow all school board policies and guidelines. • To follow state and local courses of study, to follow rules and regulations of the state and local board of education, and to follow school rules and policies established by the principal. • To participate in all required in-service activities and continue professional development. • Communicate with parents/guardians to keep them informed of their child’s progress and hold conferences with parents/guardians when necessary. • Perform any and all other duties as assigned by the Principal. • Facilitates IEP teams and documents team discussion in Prior Written Notice. Distribute Prior Written Notice document. Monitor any required follow-up. • Serves as an instructional leader in overseeing the development and implementation of students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). • Serves as an instructional partner for general education teachers as they implement instruction to meet the needs of diverse student populations. • Provides professional development to general educators and paraprofessional as required. • Analyzes assessment data and other performance measures to identify targeted instructional practices that support strategies and activities with the District Improvement Plan. • Co-plans and co-teachers with classroom teachers and provides demonstration lessons as necessary. • Works collaboratively with principal, assistant principal, and teachers to develop schedules and grouping arrangements to accommodate students’ needs, while maintaining a rigorous and engaging academic program for students with disabilities. • Attends mandatory district trainings.

Lenoir City Schools is seeking a positive, enthusiastic teacher for special education, grades 6 - 12. Candidates should hold comprehensive endorsement codes 620 and 621 in order to apply. Selected applicant will provide special education services in a self-contained classroom environment. Selected applicant will manage caseload, paraprofessionals, and outside providers. Selected applicant will work with all stakeholders to ensure the success of all students. Those with the ability to develop positive relationships with students and can contribute to the positive school climate at Lenoir City Schools are preferred. Legacy endorsement codes that equate to 620 and 621 are acceptable.
